Salt Production Technology Sharing: The Simple Journey from Seawater to the Table

Salt is an indispensable seasoning in our daily lives and also an important raw material for industrial production. Behind these seemingly ordinary white crystals lies a mature salt production technology. Today, I'll share two mainstream salt production methods in plain language, without complex terminology, so you can easily understand how salt is made.

The most traditional and environmentally friendly method is solar salt production, mainly used for producing sea salt. Simply put, it's "relying on nature" — but with careful technique. First, seawater is introduced into specially designed salt pans, where it settles to remove impurities like sand and mud. Then, under sunlight and wind, the water gradually evaporates, concentrating into high-density brine. When the brine reaches saturation, sodium chloride crystals naturally precipitate. After collection and further drying, coarse sea salt is obtained. With simple subsequent processing, it becomes the table salt we use daily. This method has low cost and no pollution, making it ideal for coastal regions.

With technological advancement, vacuum evaporation salt production has become the mainstream method today, especially suitable for well salt and rock salt production. Its core principle is simple: using a low-pressure environment to lower the boiling point of brine, allowing the water to evaporate at relatively low temperatures, greatly improving production efficiency. First, underground brine is extracted through drilling, or rock salt is dissolved to obtain concentrated saltwater. After purification to remove impurities, the brine is sent into sealed evaporators. A vacuum pump creates a low-pressure environment, allowing water to evaporate quickly and salt crystals to precipitate. This method is unaffected by weather, produces salt of high purity and uniform grain size, and saves energy.

Whether using the traditional solar method or the modern vacuum method, the core principle is the same: "evaporate water, precipitate salt." Today's salt production technology continues to improve, preserving the environmental advantages of traditional processes while enhancing efficiency and purity — ensuring that every grain of salt reaches our tables safely and efficiently.
